Dr. George Kaplan; an independent doctor of Optometry, practicing thirty five years in Florida; twenty three years in Citrus County. He was born in Miami and is married to his high school sweetheart, Linda. He has two children and four grandchildren.
Dr. Kaplan attended the University of Florida and graduated from Florida Atlantic University. He received his doctorate from Pacific University College of Optometry, Forest Grove, Oregon in 1977.
Dr. Kaplan practices general optometry. This includes eye exams for eyeglasses, all kinds of contact lenses, and evaluations for eye disease and health.
He also specializes in Sports Vision, Learning and Reading Problems, Traumatic Brain Injury, Computer Vision Syndrome, Vision Rehabilitation, and more.
For example, Dr. Kaplan has provided eye-hand training to the U of F Gators since 1997; and was featured in a Sports Illustrated article for his efforts. He also trained Ted Williams to overcome the eye-hand problems he suffered due to his strokes (and learned Ted’s valuable batting secrets to boot). Dr. Kaplan also advises parents and teachers on children with special developmental and performance needs like ADHD and Dyslexia.
Dr. Kaplan is also a lecturer and inventor with three patents, including a device that measures minute color vision changes to help diagnose eye disease. His next endeavor is a golfing device that makes you keep your head down during your swing! Dr. Kaplan has also consulted for the U.S. Air Force on topics of eye-hand coordination and “visual defense” for our fighting forces on the ground and in the air. He also consulted to Haley V.A. Poly Trauma Hospital in Tampa in regards to developing a Vision Rehabilitation program for head injured veterans.
Dr. Kaplan says, “There’s never a dull moment in my office. So, bring in your sports performance questions… questions about your kid’s school performance… questions about anything that has to do with vision. We’ll take care of it.”
Dr. Kaplan is also associated with Sun Coast Eye Institute and Surgical Center in Crystal River.
Claudia Chavez, O.D.
Dr. Chavez is an independent doctor of optometry. She graduated from New England College of Optometry in 2002, and she graduated from medical school in 1988 from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala. She received her masters in Ophthalmology in 1995 from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala. She relocated to the New England area in 2000 and practiced in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for a few years. 14 years ago, she moved to Florida, where she has been practicing as an optometrist in Citrus and Pinellas county. Dr. Chavez practices general and pediatric optometry, this includes eyeglasses and contact lens exams, and complete and thorough evaluations of ocular disease and health.
